What is metallic acrylic paint?

Metallic acrylic paint is a very unique and interesting substance created from mica powders to mimic real metal. It is a permanent paint which is very durable and remains strong in colour for a very very long time.

Why does metallic acrylic paint rely on light?
This paint relies heavily on artificial or natural light to achieve its full effect. Without any reflective light the metallic colour is opaque to the human eye, but as soon is it is fed with light it comes to life, it shines beautifully, and can produce some interesting effects. Below I have explained how you should display your artwork to achieve this effect.

Does the colour change with different levels of light?
I have some metallic acrylic artwork in my living room, and people always comment about the colour changing with different levels of light. During the day when natural light directly hits the colour, it looks different to when my internal light hits the colour in the evening. Both are very effective, but both behave differently in their own ways at different times of the day. In real life it can look quite fascinating, and it’s a real shame a camera cannot capture what the human eye sees when viweing artwork created by metallic acrylic paint. This is why I feel that the photographs on my website do not do any justice to my metallic acrylic art.

Do the colours really shine that beautifully?
This is what makes metallic acrylic art very different, and this is why it grabs peoples attention. If you are someone who is looking for art that will impress people, and will capture peoples imaginations, then my metallic abstract art is your perfect solution. With most of my art being textured it also makes the artwork even more interesting, because you get the shining effect of the metallic colour which is then combined with the interesting shapes, and objects the texture creates.

Tips on displaying artwork which is created by metallic acrylic paint

1) I always advise clients to hang the artwork on a wall that is directly opposite a window, so natural light can flood through and hit the metallic colour(s). In an office or business this maybe difficult as the windows maybe a far distance from the opposing wall, but usually offices/businesses have enough internal lighting which compensates for natural light.

2) If you have one main internal light in the centre of your room then try your best to display your artwork, directly in front of this central light. In the evening when your turn your light on just see how the colours react, you will be amazed.

3) If you can achieve both of the above then your artwork will purely benefit, and will look stunning. During the day natural light will illuminate your artwork whilst during the night your internal light will work its magic with the metallic colour(s).
